SAii, the sustainable lifestyle brand from S Hotels & Resorts (under Singha Estate PCL), is setting new benchmarks for eco-conscious hospitality in Southeast Asia. The brand’s flagship properties, SAii Laguna Phuket and SAii Lagoon Maldives, have become the first and only venues in Thailand and the Maldives to receive GOLD certification from the Event Industry Council (EIC) under its Sustainable Event Standards—underscoring SAii’s leadership in the green MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) space.

These achievements follow years of strategic investment in infrastructure upgrades and sustainability-focused programming, further supported by consistent recognition from Green Globe, with SAii Thailand earning certification for three consecutive years and its Maldives counterpart for two.

SAii Laguna Phuket: Thailand’s First EIC Gold-Certified Venue

Set between the lagoon and ocean on Phuket’s west coast, SAii Laguna Phuket blends eco-conscious design with high-functioning MICE facilities. Its 1,900 sqm ocean-facing event complex includes a grand ballroom, nine breakout rooms, and multiple outdoor venues—all aligned with TCEB’s Thailand MICE Venue Standards.

Efforts to reduce environmental impact include a ban on single-use plastics, the use of recycled and reusable décor, carbon footprint measurement tools, and green transportation options.

The property’s commitment to community engagement is also evident through its collaboration with Seeds of Change, which upcycles materials from the resort’s renovations into handmade beach bags found in guest rooms. Meanwhile, SAii Spa incorporates traditional Thai therapies using local, eco-friendly products, and the resort’s new Sustainable Sleep concept features eco-conscious King Koil mattresses in every renovated room.

Dining outlets emphasise healthy cuisine made with local and organic produce, while recreational offerings like kayaking and paddleboarding promote zero-emission leisure.

SAii Lagoon Maldives: Green MICE in Paradise

Part of the CROSSROADS Maldives complex, SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton, is the first in the country to earn EIC’s Gold Certification. The resort’s 326-sqm Event Hall caters to over 400 delegates with cutting-edge tech and supports Hilton’s “Meet with Purpose” initiative—integrating wellness, sustainability, and community engagement into corporate gatherings.

Activities for MICE guests include coral propagation workshops, eco-friendly beachfront boardrooms, and interactive cooking sessions with local, sustainably sourced ingredients. The resort reduces waste through initiatives like solar-powered energy use, elimination of single-use plastics, and paperless operations.

The nearby Maldives Discovery Centre and Marine Discovery Centre deepen the guest experience with educational exhibits and conservation-led programming, making sustainability part of the journey rather than an afterthought.

SAii Phi Phi Island Village: Immersive Eco-Adventure

Recently named one of the Top 100 Sustainable Hotels and Resorts by Luxury Lifestyle Awards, SAii Phi Phi Island Village continues to innovate in experiential sustainability. The resort recently launched an eco trail designed to immerse guests in the island’s biodiversity through guided kayaking, cycling, and snorkelling routes. Corporate groups can engage in team-building activities like mangrove planting, stargazing, and marine biology workshops at the on-site Marine Discovery Centre.

More Than a Trend—A Core Philosophy

“At SAii, we’ve integrated sustainability into every part of the guest experience,” said Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels & Resorts. “From eco-design and community empowerment to responsible dining and zero-waste events, we are committed to continuing this journey—not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because our guests value it too.”

As eco-tourism becomes a defining feature of the hospitality landscape, SAii is positioning itself at the forefront, turning sustainability from a buzzword into real-world action—one villa, one event, and one island at a time.
