Talking Luxury with 'Anshuman Narayan' of the 'Sanchaya Bintan'

Anshuman Narayan is no stranger to the Luxury Hotel Sector; in fact he is an old hand to this market. Before becoming the General Manager of the Sanchaya Bintan, Anshuman worked extensively as a hotelier with some of the Minor Hotel Group  and Mandarin Oriental Group’s finest properties. Anshuman, along with his extensive experience is now at the helm of the Sanchaya Bintan.  His tender there has has been a successful one with Sanchaya being recognised for awards by several industry institutions.

Since opening in December 2014, the luxurious 21-villa and 9-suite property has won some of the world’s most coveted hospitality awards. In just 2015, these awards included the Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List of ‘Best New Hotels in the World’, Travel and Leisure’s list for ‘Best 43 New Hotels Around the Globe’ and DestinAsian’s ‘Luxe List’ along with the ‘Andrew Harper Report’.

Hotelintel.co talked to Ashuman to discover more about this property why is it different than other luxury properties.

“First off Bintan is a beautiful destination, with easy access from both Singapore and Indonesia. It is only 45 minutes away by Ferry from Singapore.” said Ashuman.

New York has its Hamptons, Sydney has the Blue Mountains and Rome has Naples. In Singapore, Bintan is emerging as that ‘place you go’ for R&R and is proving to be a major draw card for the Singapore’s well heeled.  

“By far, there is nothing like the Sanchaya Bintan.” Anshuman added.

“The Sanchaya is not your regular luxury property. We call our guests by their first name and we have certified butlers from the British Butler Institute. We refer to our butler as a ‘companion’. Our guests get VIP clearance at immigration too.  You don’t need to queue up. We will take care of everything for you. It’s a very personalized service”.

Getting Personal

“When we say ‘personalize’, what it really means is that you can get practically anything that you want. If guests want to eat something that’s not on the menu, we will do whatever we can to deliver on their request.  If you’re craving Thai food while you’re on Bintan Island, then our chef will make it happen for you.”

This is why the Sanchaya has a repeat-guest rate of over 20%. The Sanchaya has a ratio of 5 staff per room, so this is proven that guests will be taken care of 24 hours.

Putting a great service asides, the Sanchaya also known by its design. Every villa has its own unique interior design. The Sanchaya Bintan was designed by the famous design firm ‘P49 Deesign’.

Challenges?

Anshuman shared with us that “What has been a challenge for the Sanchaya Bintan is ensuring that we maintain everything that Sanchaya is and also take it up to the next level. We motivate our staff by ‘doing’ and working together with them”

The Sanchaya has amazing reviews on Trip Advisor and looks like it is going to be one of the ‘must go’ places for luxury travelers in Southeast Asia.
