Mr Gavin M. Faull, Chairman and President of Swiss-Belhotel International recently spoke at the annual Strategic Occupancy AUS & NZ 2017 conference in Sydney which took place from 29-31 May.
While offering his insights on innovative strategies to increase the daily rates of hotels in Australasia, Mr. Faull said, “Swiss-Belhotel understands the myriad opportunities on offer in this region. We currently operate four properties in Australia and New Zealand and we are excited to strengthen our position as the region continues to develop as a global tourist destination.”
Jarrod Crump of Accor Hotels and Michael Smith of 8Hotels joined Mr. Faull for a panel discussion entitled ‘Can we increase average daily rates in Australia?’ during which a number of key points were debated. Issues included whether or not Sydney’s rates should be comparable to London or Singapore, how far daily rates can rise before a ceiling is met, and who needs to make the first move to begin the process.
“We actively implement strategies designed to boost RevPAR by offering iindividualized services adapted to the local environment, as well as state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated recreational facilities,” explained Mr Faull. “Its always useful to share ideas and experiences with our industry peers and I am encouraged by the impressive resilience, dynamism and growth in the Australasian tourism sector,” he added.
Strategic Occupancy AUS & NZ brings together the accommodation sector to discuss best practice approaches to driving RevPAR and mitigating the financial impact of OTAs. Industry veterans and exclusive speakers come together to discuss new strategies for reducing distribution costs, optimising channel mix and overcoming increasing industry disruption.
