On January 12th, Onyx Hospitality Group announced a partnership with JR Kyushu to open the Shama Lakeview Asoke, Bangkok, located in Sukhumvit Soi 16.

Following JR Kyushu’s purchase of the existing serviced apartment property on Sukhumvit Soi 16 in December 2017, the company has appointed Onyx as the hotel management service provider under its Shama brand. Toshihiko Aoyagi, JR Kyushu President, said the partnership with Onyx had arisen because he was impressed not only by the level of hospitality the company provides, but also by the sincere attitude which was the overriding factor in making this exclusive decision.

It is my great pleasure that we will be able to work together with Onyx Hospitality Group who has had an outstanding track record with high reputation in the management of hotel and serviced apartments in Southeast Asia,he explained. Last year, I had a chance to visit Amari Pattaya by Onyx and to listen to the General Manager on various issues including operations.  There was so much I felt I could empathize with him. Together with his hospitality mind, I felt even more confident that Onyx is the most desirable business partner for us. I am determined that JR Kyushu will continue to work very closely with Onyx as a long lasting business partner and together lead Shama Lakeview Asoke as a successful venture.

JR Kyushu Business Development (Thailand) Co. Ltd. is an affiliate of Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu), a leading Japanese conglomerate with businesses in various sectors including transportation, real estate development, and hospitality. As part of its medium-term business plan from 2016-2018, JR Kyushu will take on the challenges of new business projects and expansion beyond its Kyushu base as one of its key strategies. Overseas, JR Kyushu Group already operates restaurants in Shanghai, China, and in 2017 it established two new companies, JR Kyushu Capital Management (Thailand) Co. Ltd. and JR Kyushu Business Development (Thailand) Co. Ltd., to focus on business potential in Southeast Asia. In particular, JR Kyushu Group is pushing ahead with business expansion aimed at Southeast Asian markets in the real estate business.

The launch of the property as Shama Lakeview Asoke, is scheduled for April 1st 2018. This project signifies the first major investment in Thailand by JR Kyushu, and Onyx Hospitality Group’s first collaboration with a Japanese institutional partner.
