A series of bomb blasting have occurred in Thailand over the past 24 hours, happening the night before the Queen’s Birthday (Mother’s Day) long weekend. Blasts have happened in Hua Hin, Phuket, Trang,Phang Nga, and Surat Thani.

Hua Hin, Phuket, Trang Phang Nga, and Surat Thani are known for their beautiful beaches. According to BBC News, there are reports of three deaths in this latest series; one in Hua Hin, one in Surat thani, and one in Trang. Around 20 people are injured, including five foreigners.

“Our hotels in Phuket and Hua Hin remain operational following the various incidents on 11th and 12th of August 2016. All colleagues are accounted for and we have not received reports about our guests being impacted. Our thoughts are with those affected. The safety of our guests and colleagues remain our number one priority and we have enhanced security measures in place. We are monitoring the situation closely and will work with authorities as required.” stated Charles Yap, the Director of Communication of Onyx Hospitality which runs several properties in those affected areas.

Embassies have advised their citizens to be careful to travel to these areas and hotels are working hard to ensure guests safety.

Anantara Chiang Mai Resort & Spa, while not directly located in any affected area has also made sure that guests can still travel and stay safely with Anantara. The General Manager of Anantara Chiang Mai had made a comment on its social media today :

“I am sad to confirm that it has been widely reported in the international news that yesterday evening and in the early hours of this morning there was a series of small explosions in Southern Thailand in the towns of Hua Hin, Patong, Surat Thani and Trang. Please rest assured that Chiang Mai is completely unaffected by these incidents – indeed all Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas throughout the country remain open for business. Anantara is working very closely with all guests whose travel plans may have been affected by these tragic events.

Safety and security is our paramount priority and Anantara is monitoring the situation closely in consultation with the appropriate government authorities. We will of course keep you updated with new information. Our hearts go out to all of the people who have been affected by this tragedy.”
